    Ik vond een prachtig lied, gezongen door Judy Collins, “Send in the Clowns”.

    De titel wordt in het lied vaak gezongen, maar kan volgens mij niet zomaar vertaald worden met “Stuur de clowns binnen”. Kan iemand een suggestie doen voor een goede vertaling. De volledige tekst van de song staat hieronder.

    Kijk eens op Wikipedia bij “send in the clowns”. Daar staat o.a. :

    The title refers to a phrase reputedly used in a circus when an unforeseen disaster had occurred, with the clowns being sent in to distract the audience from the problem. Alternatively, the title could refer to the practice in vaudeville theatre of sending the clowns on to the stage to distract the audience after a particularly bad act, or to the practice of sending in clowns at a rodeo in order to divert danger from a fallen rodeo cowboy.

    De strekking van het lied lijkt me duidelijk. Nou nog een goed Nederlands equivalent bedenken…

    Beste Anna,

    Een eye-opener. En wat het Nederlandse equivalent betreft: da's inderdaad een puzzel, waar ik nog niet uit ben. Misschien doe ik de tekst nog wel het meeste recht, door het woord “clown” in de vertaling gewoon te handhaven, met onder de songtekst jouw korte Google-verklaring. Dank je wel voor jouw reactie.
